Ralph Sampson led the Virginia Cavaliers to the NIT title in 1980 and a NCAA Final Four team in 1981. Sampson and Bill Walton were the only players to win three Naismith Awards as the National Player of the Year. A 3-time ACC Player of the Year and 1984 NBA Rookie of the Year, Sampson, a 4-time NBA All-Star played for four NBA teams.
Bernard King, a New York native, went to the University of Tennessee and was a 3-time SEC Player of the Year. He was half of the famous “Ernie (Grunfeld) and Bernie” scoring duo while at Tennessee. King, a 1977 NBA first round pick, went on to play for six NBA teams.
