NY Giants’ Eli Manning will not start Sunday’s game at the Oakland Raiders breaking a consecutive regular-season playing streak of starting in 210 games. Instead, the Giants are planning on starting Geno Smith with third-string rookie Davis Webb also slated to see playing time.
“My feeling is that if you’re going to play the other guys, play them. Starting to keep the streak alive knowing you won’t finish the game and have a chance to win is pointless to me and would ruin the integrity of the streak,” Manning said.
Brett Farve has the NFL all-time mark with 297 consecutive games started.
Eli Manning has started every game for the NY Giants since November 21, 2004. Geno Smith will become the first black quarterback to start a game in NY Giants’ history.
