The Yankees have now lost five games in a row and the last three to the Oakland A’s having lost today 5-2.  Masahiro Tanaka, the Yankees’ ace, is anything but stellar with another crunching defeat.

Tanaka gave up five runs on eight hits in 4 innings of work and allowed two home runs including a leadoff HR to Matt Joyce and later to Ryon Healy.

The Yankees are now 38-28 one game ahead of the Red Sox who also lost today 7-1 to the seemingly indomitable 46-23 Houston Astros.

Oakland’s Ryon Healy went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Matt Joyce added a 3 for 3 performance to down the lackluster, road-weary Yankees.

The A’s dedicated  Gate C to the memory of Jim Catfish Hunter early in the morning and in a ceremony prior to the game and an on-field dedication with family members and former players including Reggie jackson, Jim “Blue Moon” Odom, Vida Blue, Gene Tenace and Bert Campanaris.

The Yankees will try to salvage the last game of the 4-game series tomorrow to avoid getting swept.
